Grandad’s Meatloaf

Grandad's Meatloaf

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour 30 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 40 minutes
Servings 6 people


  • 2 to 3 lbs. ground beef
  • 1 lb. sausage meat Jimmy Dean regular is a good choice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 yellow onion diced
  • 1 tsp. worchestershire sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. onion powder


  1. Preheat oven to 350°.  Now get your hands in there and mix all the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl.

  2. Form the meat mixture into a loaf and place in a medium sized roasting pan covered.

  3. Bake for 1 hour.  Remove cover and continue baking for another 30 minutes or until internal temperature is 160°F

Recipe Notes

This is comfort food at it's best.  Enjoy this with your favorite vegetables or even mac and cheese.  You can't go wrong.

Did you know:  The word meatloaf started appearing in print in 1899 along with the introduction of the first mechanical meat grinder.  That makes this post 118 years late.  Oh well, better late than never.
