Nice and easy alternative to Beef Stroganoff.

Steak Strips With Mushroom Gravy

  • 2 cups broad egg noodles uncooked
  • 1 10 to 12 oz. New York strip steak rind and fat trimmed
  • 1 tbsp. cooking oil vegetable or extra light olive oil
  • 8 oz. sliced mushrooms button or baby bella
  • 3 green onions chopped
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp. all purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • parsley flakes for garnish


  1. Cook the noodles per package instructions.  While noodles are boiling, slice the steak into thin strips and set aside.  For this recipe I used a rare cooked strip steak that I had grilled previously.  However, a fresh steak works just as well.

  2. Drop the oil in a large skillet and saute fry the steak strips over medium heat until all the pink is gone.  About 3 to 4 minutes should do it.  Remove the strips from the pan and set aside.

  3. Now saute the sliced mushrooms and green onions in the same pan for 2 minutes turning frequently.  Add the minced garlic and fry for another 30 seconds.

  4. Add the beef stock to the skillet along with the salt and pepper and bring to a simmer.  Stir the flour into the cold water until no more lumps appear.  Add the flour mixture to the skillet and simmer until the gravy thickens.

  5. Drain the egg noodles and divide them up onto two plates.  Spoon the steak and gravy over the noodles and sprinkle the parsley flakes on top to garnish.  Serve and enjoy.
