Sausage Penne With Vodka sauce

Whether you choose hot or mild Italian sausage, this vodka sauce is sure to become an instant hit.

  • 8 oz. uncooked penne noodle
  • 1 tbsp. olive oil extra virgin
  • 1 med. yellow onion diced
  • 1 lb. Italian sausage
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 28 oz. tin crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup vodka
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • chopped Italian parsley for garnish


  1. Cook the penne noodle al dente style per package instructions.  While the penne is cooking heat the oil in a large skillet to medium.  Add the diced onion and sausage and scramble fry until almost done.  Add the minced garlic and continue to cook until all pink is gone (about another minute).

  2. Drain excess fat from the sausage.  Then stir in the salt and crushed tomatoes, reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes.  Add the vodka and heavy cream, and bring it back to a boil.  Reduce the heat again and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.

  3. Drain the cooked penne noodle and add it to the vodka sauce.  Toss until well coated.  That's it, serve immediately, and enjoy with a slice of garlic bread or fresh caesar salad.

Did you know:  The first written record of vodka production was in the Sandomierz Court Registry, Poland 1405.  Russia didn't get vodka "to paper" until 1751.  I wonder what the Russians drank for the previous 346 years.
