Homemade Baked Fish Sticks

  • 12 oz. cod fillets
  • 3/4 cup plain panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. Old Bay seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp. paprika
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon-pepper seasoning
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tsp. hot sauce I like Franks Hot Sauce for this recipe
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • non-stick cooking spray


  1. Preheat oven to 400° F.  Cut the cod fillets (with the grain) into 1 inch strips.  Set aside.

  2. In one small bowl mix together the bread crumbs, salt, Old Bay seasoning, paprika, and lemon-pepper seasoning.  In another bowl beat the egg, then add the hot sauce and blend together with a fork.  Dump the flour onto a piece of waxed or parchment paper and you are ready to start dipping.

  3. Line a baking sheet with foil and give it a good spray with the non-stick cooking spray.  Coat each piece of fish in the flour and shake off excess.  Dip the fish in the egg mixture and then coat with the bread crumbs.  Press the bread crumbs lightly into the fish.  Arrange the coated pieces of cod on the baking sheet with a little separation between them.  Bake the fish sticks for 10 to 12 minutes, turning them at the halfway point.

Recipe Notes

Complete your fish sticks meal with some coleslaw and oven baked wedgie fries.  Tartar sauce goes nicely with fish sticks too.
